If you’re a little disappointed by the lack of fine art in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, the J. Paul Getty Museum has got you covered. Banking on the popularity that Nintendo’s life-simulator has, the museum has created a neat little tool that automatically converts art pieces into Animal Crossing designs. This is similar to some other tools we’ve seen online, just with a hint of class to it.
All of this works thanks to an open-source Animal Crossing design creator. Utilizing IIIF links, which are officially endorsed files for showcasing artwork online, you can take basically any piece of classic art online and convert it for use in Nintendo’s title.
This is probably really similar to what Nintendo did in previous Animal Crossing games. Each of those featured works of art that could be hung in your museum. Traveling fox Redd would occasionally sell your forgeries, too. He was a real piece of trash.
It’s still really cool to see this kind of creativity spring up from Animal Crossing. With the advent of the internet, sharing custom designs has become so much easier and New Horizons is perfect for that. So get to art collecting, because Redd hasn’t sunk his grubby paws into the latest game yet.
