The Pokemon franchise is designed around single-player experiences and PVP multiplayer battles. id Software designer Kevin Cloud and producer Marty Stratton discuss Doom 4, revealing why the long-in-development game was cancelled in favor of the Doom reboot. It’s hard to deny that 2016’s Doom reboot was a success. Not only did the game earn strong reviews and sales when it released this past May, but it was also one of five games nominated for Game of the Year at The Game Awards. Considering the success of the Doom reboot, it’s hard to imagine the game in any other form, but according to the team at id Software, Doom 4 was once a very different game....

Back in April, id Software’s design director Matt Hooper, spoke about Doom 4 and explained that it’ll be quite different from its previous other shooters, including the recently released RAGE. While the game has still yet to be officially announced, even id’s John Carmack talked about Doom 4 over the summer and how, like previous id titles, will push tech to the next level and require a lot of disc/hard drive space....

Early next year, Trekkers and non-Trekkers alike will get the chance to fill the virtual shoes of Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto in Digital Extremes’ Star Trek. Originally slated to release this year, publishers Paramount Digital Entertainment and Namco Bandai chose to delay the game, noting at the time that it would ultimately appear on “all major home consoles and PC.” Apparently, one “major home console” was initially overlooked. Months before Star Trek is scheduled to release, Nintendo’s Wii U will become available, but right now the game has only been officially announced for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC....

The rather interesting genre-bending first-person game Graven, which I took a look at earlier this year, has likely flown under most people’s radars in 2020. A lot of things have happened this past year that are far more pressing than any video game. That certainly sucks for 3D Realms, c0-publisher of the game along with 1C Entertainment, but that doesn’t mean you need to continue ignoring it. Just in time for The Game Awards tomorrow, a new demo is available on Steam for Graven that lets you sample its opening hour....

Since 2013, Capcom has released three games in the Ace Attorney franchise in Japan. Those games include Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Spirit of Justice, which was released worldwide in 2016. The other two games, however, remained exclusive to Japan. They are The Great Ace Attorney and its sequel, and the reason they were never localized was never fully explained. Years later, it seems like Capcom is ready to change that....

Obsidian Entertainment’s backyard survival title Grounded has received its first update that includes a ton of new content, along with a new airborne element. The developers have stated that Grounded will update monthly while the game is still in early access, and while this one was previously scheduled for August 28 it was bumped up to August 26, as seen in a video that hinted at the update. The first update to Grounded adds lots of features, but there’s one huge feature that moves players down in the pecking order, as a crow has been added to Grounded in the first update....

Guardians of the Galaxy will include a streamer mode to help those sharing their gameplay live from being hit with takedowns. One of the bigger reveals during this year’s E3 was Square Enix’s Guardians of the Galaxy. An all-new Marvel game completely separate from the same studio’s live service Avengers. While the characters don’t look identical to their MCU counterparts, the game will share a lot of similarities with that universe, including Peter Quill’s affinity for heavy hits from the past....

The latest Guilty Gear Strive update has removed references to Taiwan and Tibet in its in-game encyclopedia. As reported by Kotaku, the update was made a week ago but only recently found its way over to ResetEra in a post by user AAK. The update was seemingly rolled out in parts, as some users reported that the glossary entries hadn’t changed for them. The changes revolve around a glossary entry titled “International Affairs after the Crusades”, which discusses some world history in the Guilty Gear universe....

Struggling to compete against the likes of PUBG and Fortnite, H1Z1: Battle Royale lost 91% of its player base just as it was about to enter the eSports realm. Since entering the console space with its PlayStation 4 open beta, the game has managed to find a bit more success, and will officially launch as a free-to-play game on August 7. At the time of this writing, the recently released Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery only lets players play through the first couple years at Hogwarts, and then a small portion of Year 3. The main characters stay relatively young, only hitting 13 max by the time players reach the “end” of the game, and as a result, don’t really express any romantic interests yet. However, romance options will be coming to Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery in future updates, according to developer Jam City....
