With the launch of Red Dead Redemption 2, Rockstar Games suddenly found itself criticized for its practice of crunch culture, requiring employees to work absurd hours to get its massive games out on time. Rockstar has apparently taken this criticism to heart and has made some major changes to mitigate these issues in the future, and this includes how it is approaching the development of Grand Theft Auto 6. A new report from Kotaku’s Jason Schreier sheds light on how Rockstar has responded to the crunch culture criticisms....

For the months of April and May 2020, every label under publisher Take-Two Interactive donated five percent of certain earnings to COVID-19 relief efforts. After platform fees, this effort resulted in the company donating more than $15 million to over 180 organizations focused on supporting food banks and small businesses, first responders, vaccine research, and more according to the company’s 2021 Fiscal First Quarter Report today. Probably the most high-profile of these donations came from Rockstar Games, which donated five percent of in-game purchase revenue from GTA Online and Red Dead Online....

H1Z1, one of the first popular battle royale games on PC, is coming to PS4 soon. Daybreak Games made two big announcements today regarding H1Z1’s forthcoming console release. First is that H1Z1 will be having an open beta beginning May 22, with no currently announced end date. Second, H1Z1 will be, like its PC predecessor, a free-to-play title with microtransactions. Expect further details closer to the start of the open beta....
