In the past, the Xbox Live Gold service has earned a reputation for taking the quantity-over-quality approach, given that most of the games the service offers don’t equal the value of the subscription price. Multiplayer space sim Infinity: Battlescape seeks $300,000 in Kickstarter funding, offers 100+ player dogfights in a seamless, to-scale solar system arena. Infinity: Battlescape is a newly revealed multiplayer space simulation title from I-Novae Studios, currently being Kickstarted with a goal of $300,000. Except “multiplayer space simulation” doesn’t really capture the scope of the title. Infinity: Battlescape aims to create huge multiplayer battles of over 100+ players within a solar system that is both built to-scale and is entirely seamless (no loading screens)....

In a move to reduce the power of vehicles in the current Call of Duty: Warzone meta, Infinity Ward has officially removed armored trucks from battle royale solos. The vehicles will remain in every other battle royale mode however, leaving some to question whether or not this really fixes the problem. Warzone’s vehicles are extremely powerful, as they have almost a 100% chance of killing enemies upon impact at almost any speed....

In what is one of the more bizarre legal disputes to occur in the video game industry, Bethesda Softworks’ parent company, ZeniMax Media, Inc. filed suit against Mojang in a Swedish court on September 27, 2011, to protect its registered trademark on the phrase, “The Elder Scrolls.” The suit stems from Mojang’s attempt to create and register its own trademark for its new game entitled Scrolls. With the substance of Mojang’s game being totally dissimilar to that of The Elder Scrolls games, many outside observers of the dispute (including us) quickly jumped to the defense of Mojang as it initially appeared to be a case of bullying by ZeniMax....

At one point in time, Scalebound was one of the highest profile console exclusives in development for Xbox One. After years of trailers and E3 appearances, the co-op action RPG was canceled, with Microsoft going as far as to remove all its trailers from YouTube. However, a recent discovery has led some to believe that the game has resumed development at Platinum Games. Fans have spotted a listing for Scalebound on the Microsoft Store....

Following its release several months ago, the launch of the Sonic the Hedgehog title Sonic Mania proved that the Blue Blur still holds a dear place in many gamers’ hearts, as the retro-styled platformer managed to become the highest-rated game in the series in over a decade. Now, in an additional bid to prove that people have never stopped being enamored by the “Fastest Thing Alive”, a fan-made creation is in the works that would let players build their own levels inspired by the original releases, and the team behind the project has put out a demo of the tech in action....

Granblue Fantasy: Versus is filling out its roster of new DLC characters for its second Character Pass. The latest recruit for the 2.5D fighting game is none other than Yuel, the pass’ third reveal who is due to join the game in December. Publisher Arc System Works revealed Yuel’s winter debut during the ARCREVO Japan Online 2020 tournament. Yuel joins previously announced alchemist Cagliostro and fallen angel Belial in this year’s Character Pass 2 trio....

As one of the many great RPGs released in 2019, GreedFall is considered by many to be one of the more underrated titles of that year. There’s a lot of reasons that Hades, the title by Supergiant Games, has been all the rage lately. For one, it’s a fantastic example of how even indie titles can become GOTY contenders. Another reason is that it’s an incredible blend of fast-paced rogue-lite action and the amazing storytelling that Supergiant is known for. Despite the excitement surrounding Halo Infinite, some players have been concerned about the quality of the title. Some fans have critiqued the graphics in the Halo Infinite gameplay video and this has led to some expecting a disappointment. As many fans had predicted and hoped, Microsoft put a new Halo title on display at their E3 2018 press conference. The latest installment of the seminal Microsoft franchise, titled Halo Infinite, was the show opener, with a beautiful new cinematic trailer, followed by Xbox head Phil Spencer introducing the title to the audience. The trailer shows off many sweeping shots of landscape and wildlife, as well as what looks like damaged Halos....

At this point, big budget movies and shows based on popular gaming franchises have become something of a joke, as they have a tendency to fail to live up to expectations. Halo is the next major franchise to get the live-action treatment in the form of a Showtime TV series, and fans everywhere are hoping the show will do good by it. However, Showtime has just announced that the series has lost its director, Rupert Wyatt, which could cause some trouble....

Harry Potter: Wizards Unite has a lengthy list of events coming up in early July and things are already kicking off with a bang as June wraps up with the start of a new Brilliant Event. The mobile AR game is playing it safe and continues to optimize all ongoing events for at home play, including the new two-part event that kicks off the month of July. This week marks the start of the next Harry Potter: Wizards Unite Brilliant Event with a shift away from the game’s main storyline and towards some much more adorable Baby Beasts....

Harry Potter: Wizards Unite was all set to kick off 2020 with a series of exciting events, but plans have slowed down a bit in response to the Coronavirus. Wizards Unite is hit the ground running last year, giving witches and wizards that extra motivation to login and continue playing with Community Days and other Brilliant Events and although the March Community Day is postponed, so fat the ongoing Brilliant Event is still moving forward....

Batman v Superman star Henry Cavill appears on Conan O’Brien and talks about the time that he missed Zack Snyder’s Superman call because he was playing World of Warcraft. Before Henry Cavill was playing the iconic role of Superman in films such as Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, he apparently spent his time playing World of Warcraft. Cavill reminded everyone of his World of Warcraft past on the latest episode of Conan, pointing out that his time playing the game almost cost him the part of Superman....

When Philip Pullman magicked up Spectres on the pages of The Subtle Knife, he did it without giving a thought to the VFX artists of the future. If Pullman had considered the puzzle he was setting the people tasked with depicting creatures so diaphanous that “in some lights, they were hardly there at all,” he may have had a rethink.
