Mass Effect 2 is trending on Twitter, but surprisingly, it doesn’t have anything to do with the remastered trilogy, Mass Effect: Legendary Edition, releasing next year. For some, it’s hard to believe that 2010 was an entire decade ago, but it was an excellent year for gaming. The community was delivered titles that are still considered masterpieces and see playtime from gamers still today, such as Red Dead Redemption, Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood, BioShock 2, and Fallout: New Vegas....

When Monte Cook Games initiates a Kickstarter, it’s become standard operating procedure for it to get unerringly funded, and quickly. That’s the case in point for the famed tabletop roleplaying game creator’s newest Kickstarter for Heroes of the Cypher System. The pledge goal is for $40,000, and the Cypher Legion of fans super-punched that out in just about an hour. As of this writing, it’s funded at almost $64,000, from almost 600 backers, and there’s still 31 days remaining....

IO Interactive launches a holiday event for Hitman called Holiday Hoarders, which includes new outfits and Home Alone baddies Harry and Marv as elusive targets. This past October, the first season of Hitman came to an end, but that doesn’t mean IO Interactive is done supporting the game. On the contrary, the studio just launched a holiday-themed event for the game called Holiday Hoarders, which adds a number of Christmas outfits for players to collect, and throws a pair of amusing new elusive targets into the mix: the thieves from Home Alone, the notorious Wet Bandits themselves, Harry and Marv....

Horizon Zero Dawn had a bit of a rough launch on PC way back in August, but Guerilla Games has been working tirelessly to get their game whipped into shape on Steam. That meant weekly updates up until the middle of September in order to correct the bulk of the bugs that were haunting PC players. It’s been roughly a month since update 1.05 dropped, and now it’s time for update 1....

Ever since The Shining terrified book readers and moviegoers, hotels have been a popular setting for the horror genre. There are a number of horror video games set in creepy hotels, and soon another can be added to the list, as Wales Interactive has announced Maid of Sker. Maid of Sker is a new horror game that will launch on PC, PS4, and Xbox One at some point in June, with a Nintendo Switch release planned for October....

It is known that George R.R. Martin often takes inspiration from medieval and early modern history for his stories about Westeros. Part of the inspiration behind A Song of Ice and Fire (televised as Game of Thrones) was the Wars of the Roses, a series of civil wars in late medieval England which saw the houses of York and Lancaster battling over the English throne. It’s no surprise, then, that the prequel series House of the Dragon (based on Martin’s book Fire & Blood) also takes some inspiration from English medieval history – specifically, from an earlier set of civil wars fought over the English crown known to historians as the Anarchy....

Leslye Headland’s long-rumored Star Wars series finally has a title. Revealed during Disney’s Investors Day presentation in December, The Acolyte is “a mystery-thriller that will take the audience into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark side powers in the final days of the High Republic era.” That synopsis doesn’t give us much, but does tease a darker show than what we’re used to from Star Wars. It could be one of the most creative, too....

Continuing the series of pop culture homebrew character builds in Dungeons & Dragons, next up is Elsa, from Disney’s Frozen. This build uses classes and backgrounds from the 5th Edition of Dungeons & Dragons, and uses spells from multiple official published source books. Building Frozen’s Elsa In D&D Elsa’s Ability Scores, Class, and Subclass Starting with class, Elsa is a sorcerer. The movie even states explicitly that she was born with her powers, which is exactly what a sorcerer is in D&D, as opposed to a wizard, who gains magic through study; or a warlock, whose magic comes from an otherworldly patron....

Fortnite’s crossover event with Deadpool has finally dropped the much anticipated Deadpool skin that players have been looking forward to. Players with the Battle Pass that have completed all the Deadpool challenges can nab it for themselves. Luckily for fans of the chimichanga-loving anti-hero, there’s a second alternate skin for Deadpool. The Alternate Skin The original skin features Deadpool’s black-and-red superhero outfit that was featured in both the comics and the movies....

There’s a lot I like about Immortals Fenyx Rising. I’ve played around 20 hours of it now and I’ve done all four of the major quest lines to restore the essence of Aphrodite, Athena, Ares, and Hephaistos. I’ve also done enough side quests, Myth Challenges, and vaults (Immortals take on Breath of the Wild’s shrines) to upgrade my health, stamina, weapons, and abilities significantly. I love the art style and humor in Immortals and I’m motivated to explore and solve every puzzle I encounter in the pursuit of power and fun cosmetics....

Emily is Away <3 is the third game in developer Kyle Seeley’s indie throwback series, and Seeley has just announced a delay in the game’s release. Originally planned for a August 2020 release, Seeley took to Twitter to confirm that Emily is Away <3, while still being worked on, would not hit that goal. However, the developer did also take the time to announce that his next update would include a new game trailer....

Upon its launch, NetherRealm Studios’ DC Comics-inspired fighting game, Injustice 2, debuted at number one on the UK charts, and it looks like the title’s sales are remaining quite steady. As it so happens, the brawler has managed to maintain the top spot on the UK game sales charts for the second week in a row, officially making it the 6th new title of 2017 to retain its position at number one....

The first chapter of AMC’s series adaptation of Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire closed on unsubtle ambiguities. The season 1 finale took a turn from the novel, paying respect to the beloved New Orleans setting with a Mardi Gras going-away party to die for, and an almost equally lethal night cap. Vampire family dysfunction overtook the pleasures of piercing flesh throughout the opening season, but blood ties proved tortuously gruesome on their own....

The Minecraft phenomenon has captured the imaginations of millions of gamers, garnering the series over 33 million sales across all platforms and inspiring countless creations. A few days ago, a user posted several photos from a Minecraft server over 2 years old which details the works of several combined artists over the course of many Minecraft versions. Gravity Rush 2 is bigger and better than its predecessor, but frustrating stealth sections and a wonky camera keep it from taking the series to the next level. The original Gravity Rush began life as one of the PlayStation Vita’s highest profile exclusive games. Hardware limitations made it difficult to properly control protagonist Kat and her various gravity-based powers on the Vita, but the remastered Gravity Rush on PS4 showed how its unique gameplay mechanics could shine with a standard controller....

At Nacon Connect, video game developer Spiders revealed its new game Steelrising for PC and next-generation consoles. The game will be the sixth RPG in a row from Spiders, after it released 17th-century action fantasy RPG GreedFall in September 2019. Today, GreedFall studio Spiders announced new action RPG Steelrising. While details are thin on the ground, the announcement tweet reveals that Steelrising’s story will allow players to “join the revolution and rewrite history” as they fight the robot army of King Louis XVI, the 18th-century monarch who was also the last king of France....
