When Mortal Kombat II hit the arcades in 1993, it was a massive hit. It took the first game, improved the gameplay, and gave us more of the gore and dark humor we loved. Plus: more fighters, more ninjas, more Fatalities, more finishing moves, more secrets, and better visuals. It solidified the franchise’s hold on pop culture, and even convinced Nintendo that including a little blood and gore in a video game isn’t the worst thing in the world....

Publisher Bethesda’s and developer id Software’s brutal first-person shooter, DOOM, contains a Terminator 2 Easter egg that references a particular point in the film. Now that DOOM has officially released, fans of the gore-soaked FPS have been trawling the title’s single player campaign looking to uncover any hidden secrets put in by developers. One of the latest discoveries to come from the game’s solo mode is a snazzy reference to the final scene in James Cameron’s Terminator 2: Judgment Day....

The HTC Vive’s price has been reduced by $200 today, bringing the total cost of the VR headset bundle to $599. This is the first major discount for the HTC Vive since it launched in April 2016 at the cost of $799. The high price is explained by the bundling of two motion controllers, two base station trackers, and the various connection cables in addition to the HTC Vive headset itself....

Some 12 years after 66-year-old (at the time) Harrison Ford last wore the fedora in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, a fifth installment in the saga of everyone’s favorite adventurer and archaeology professor is still in the works. A new script is being penned by James Mangold (Logan), who has also been tapped to succeed Steven Spielberg in the director’s chair for Indiana Jones 5, Den of Geek had a chance to speak with producer Frank Marshall about the current state of development on the movie, starting with the screenplay, Ford’s status (he’s now edging toward 79), and what Mangold potentially brings to the franchise....

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is being composed by Mark Mothersbaugh - depending on your age and interests, you’ll either know him as the lead guitarist of Devo, or the composer of Thor: Ragnarok. As far as his role in Rift Apart goes though, it’s the latter that was crucial in landing him the job. As part of my recent Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart preview, I listened in on a fireside (or Zoomside, at least) chat between Mothersbaugh and the game’s creative director, Markus Smith, and heard all about how the partnership came about....

GreedFall offers players five different endings in total, offering plenty of replayability, especially if you want to earn the achievements/trophies related to unlocking each one. The decisions you make throughout the game will shape what endings are available to you at the end. Just below is a summary of the key choices needed in order to unlock each ending. It is possible to unlock all of the endings without playing multiple times as long as you save strategically, then reload save files to make different decisions afterward....

Halo news has been very prevalent over the last few months, with 343 Industries looking to be open and honest with its community about the future of the franchise. While that mostly surrounds the upcoming release of Halo Infinite, it also concerns a new TV show based on the series coming to Paramount Plus and merchandise such as the Bulldog Nerf gun. The most recent announcement comes courtesy of a Halo Waypoint blog post, with 343 revealing that a novel titled Halo: Divine Wind is currently in the works....

There’s just something about rocks and grass (spattered with bullet holes and Spartan blood) that just screams Halo. From the first time we set foot in Blood Gulch, we just couldn’t get enough. Luckily for Halo 4, the Exile multiplayer map will be keeping the tradition alive. But in true 343 Industries fashion, the developers have made sure that the background textures will be the only thing completely familiar to players once the action starts....

The live-action Halo series has moved from Showtime to Paramount Plus. With hopes to compete with streaming giants like Netflix, Hulu, and Disney Plus, ViacomCBS is rebranding CBS All Access to Paramount Plus. In 2018, it was announced that a 10-episode Halo series was coming to Showtime. The Steven Spielberg-produced show had reportedly filmed “55%-60% of its first season” before the pandemic shut down production last year. The series, which is based on the popular Xbox video game franchise, is now set to premiere on Paramount Plus in 2022....

Be warned, this trailer for Hitman: Absolution is not very suitable for work. (NSFW). It’s been a little over a year now since IO Interactive and Square Enix announced Hitman: Absolution. The developers first stated that they wanted this sequel to be “a more stylized, more serious, and darker game this time around in both the story line and the visuals.” Based on this trailer seen above, it looks like they have (somewhat) achieved their goals....

Horizon Zero Dawn introduced a novel way to reveal the map by populating the game world with giant, giraffe-like robots called Tallnecks. These peaceful machines with radar dishes for heads return in Horizon Forbidden West, and climbing them is necessary if players want to fully explore the ruined land of San Francisco and its surrounding wilds. Even though Horizon Forbidden West is larger than Zero Dawn, the new entry still only sports six Tallnecks....

Horizon Zero Dawn arrived at a strange time. In the midst of 2017’s open-world fatigue and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild hype, Horizon hit the PlayStation 4, becoming an instant hit and critical darling, solidifying a new franchise for Killzone developer Guerrilla Games. Now, a sequel is coming to the PlayStation 5. Revealed in a trailer during June’s PS5 reveal event, Horizon Forbidden West looks gorgeous. In the sequel, Aloy ventures into the “Forbidden West,” what used to be the states west of Utah....

While various takes on the battle royale genre have released over the last year, including one that supports up to 1,000 players, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4’s forthcoming Blackout Battle Royale mode manages to stand out even among heavy-hitting competition such as Fortnite and PUBG. After all, it attracted 400,000 viewers on Twitch, though Dr. DisRespect managed to have a bit of a unique experience. Black Ops 4 still manages to deliver a battle royale entry worthy of the Call of Duty brand despite it all....

Netflix chiller I’m Thinking of Ending Things has arrived to confuse and bemuse. It’s based on the novel by Iain Reid, which is also a mystery, and it’s adapted by Charlie Kaufman, a man with a history of playing around with concepts of fiction and reality in his screenplays such as Adaptation, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Synecdoche, New York. I’m Thinking of Ending Things is no less oblique, no less confusing, particularly if you haven’t read the book and only want to watch the movie once....
